It’s been a while since I’ve been able to blog and share what I’ve been up to. First of all my apologies for the lack of recent updates on both the blog and the programs ZippyConverter and ZippyRippy. The hard drive in my machine crashed and so did the logic board, so I had to wait to get a new MacBook which I got for a steal at MacBookmart.com. I had to use my wife’s Windows computer for a little while. But, I’m back to the Mac and all restored from backup.
I’ve been spending the last few days trying to reconnect with my code, after not looking at it for a little while I started to get lost and wondered if there was a better way. So I’ve been starting with ZippyRipp, recompiling ffmpeg and finding more effective ways to rip a DVD and how to get metadata of the film itself into the resulting file. So, ZippyRippy 1.1 is almost done with compatability for iPod/iPhone/iPod touch/AppleTV and iPad, plus the ability to rip a raw MP4 file for use on media centers all with optional h.264 encoding, plus ZippyRippy will attempt to search IMDB and get metadata about the movie to add to the Apple compatable files or MP4 file. It will use the title of the disc to determine the title, but often titles of DVD discs aren’t that descriptive, so you’ll have the ability to search using a custom term and choose from a list. Also, ZippyRippy will make a disc image of a DVD for backup and archiving, and will rip the main title of a DVD to a single title DVD so when you put it in your player, it just plays, no menus to navigate.
On the ZippyConverter front, since I’m finishing up on ZippyRippy I then intend to incorporate the new build of ffmpeg and metadata functions.
Look for ZippyRippy soon, no firm date yet as I’m still testing.
Ben
